Q: I’m returning my shears for sharpening or my dryer for reconditioning.
How should I ship it to you, and should I insure the package?
A: While a very, very small percentage of items are lost in shipping,
your shearsare your valuable tools, and should be protected from damage or loss.
Fromm International generally recommends that you insure your shears at their replacement
value, send them protected in a padded envelope, and use a service that provides
package tracking. We recommend using UPS or FedEx; they provide the most up-to-date
and accurate tracking systems.

|
Q: How long does it take to repair my shears or dryer?
A: You should allow approximately 3-4 weeks for your shear or dryer
to be returned to you. During this time, most stylists generally will use a set
of backup shears or a second dryer. For more information on purchasing a second
set of shears, please
view Fromm’s full line of high-quality shears and solis dryers. |

|
Q: Can I have a local sharpener sharpen my shear; I don’t want to wait 3
weeks.
A: Perhaps you’ve heard, “my shear never feels the same after I have
it sharpened.” This is because a local sharpener may lack knowledge of the edges
and angles on ourblades. The Fromm Service Center provides expert craftsmanship,
without taking off a lot of steel, which is a big factor in making your shear feel
as smooth and sharp as when you bought it. We guarantee all of our work. To speed
return time, you might consider express delivery. |
|
|
Q: Will Fromm International only sharpen Fromm shears?
A: No, Fromm’s professional sharpeners are able to sharpen and repair
anymanufacturer’s shears. For replacement parts such as finger rests, finger rings, stoppers,
or screw assemblies for other manufacturer’s shears, however, you will
need to contact that manufacturer’s service department. |
|
|
Q: I dropped my shears – can they be fixed?
A: While Fromm shears are crafted to the highest level of quality
and durability, their fine craftsmanship also makes them surprisingly delicate if
misused. Dropping a pair of shears can nick and even bend the blade. Sometimes the
shears
can be fixed, but other times they cannot. If you’ve dropped your shears, Fromm
recommends sending them in to ourService Center
for reconditioning. |
|
|
|
Q: What if my shear stops closing when it’s still half open?
A: The tension on the blades needs to be adjusted. Please click on
care suggestions
for step-by-step directions for adjusting the tension.

Q: Aren’t Japanese shears the best?
A: In the 1970s, the Japanese were the first to use an integrated edge, which provided
a very soft, sharp cut, but now many shears have this edge, so Japanese as well
as
German and American shears can be the best.
|
|
|
|
Q: Why is the end of my blade less pointy than on my friend’s shear?
A: German manufacturers tend to square the tips, which enables the sharpness to
lastlonger. The Fromm Service Center can sharpen the tips of your shears if you
like them pointy. Please click on
service center.

Hair Dryers
|
|
Q: How do I select the right dryer for me?
A: Dryers offer different benefits. If you consider which features are important
to
you, you will be able to choose the best dryer for you.
Heat and Speed —
The number of speed and heat settings offered varies among dryers. How many do you
need? Is a cool shot important to you? Dryers offering extreme heat will straighten
curly and ethnic hair efficiently. Dryers offering greater air volume, speed and
pressure will dry hair fast.
Comfort — It's very
important to buy a dryer that feels right in your hand. Handle design, weight, balance
and switch placement are considerations.
AC or DC Motor —A dryer with a DC
motor is usually lighter and less expensive, however, it will need to be replaced
more frequently. DC dryers are best suited for at home use.
Ionic —dryers that emit real ions,
splitting water droplets in half for faster drying and smoother and shinier hair.

Q : What is ALCI?
A: ALCI is a ground fault plug that offers immersion protection preventing a serious
electrocution hazard if the dryer is dropped in water. The Consumer Products Safety
Commission (CPSC) maintains that consumers can only purchase hair dryers with ALCI.
Ground fault plugs are recommended for salon use but not required.

|
|
|
Q: What's the difference between AC and DC motors?
A: If you want a long lasting and more powerful, professional quality dryer, buy
an AC motor dryer. A dryer with a DC motor is usually lighter and less expensive,
however it will need to be replaced more frequently. DC dryers are best suited for
at home use.

|
|
|
Q: What's an ionic dryer?
A: A dryer emitting real ions, splitting water droplets in half for faster drying,
leaving hair smooth and shiny.

Q: What does an ionic comb do?
A: Ionic technology reduces static electricity and makes hair softer, shinier and
healthier because the hair cuticle dries smooth and closed protecting the hair shaft.
|
|
|
|
Q: Why are combs made of different materials?
A: High quality, anti-static thermoplast (ProGlide Combs) offers flexibility
and is gentle on the scalp.
Clipper-Mate® Hard Rubber Combs have
fully hand-polished teeth that separate hair in to easy-to-see sections, while allowing
hair to slide through teeth easily. These combs are designed for using shears and
clippers over the tops of the combs, with no step between heel and teeth. Polypropylene
combs are strong and unbreakable.
